Why donate to the Nelson Civic Theatre Society? Because your contribution matters and will help us reach our goals in our most pressing priority areas. Plus you get a charitable receipt to boot.

Current Priorities

Our venue has been a key community gathering place for more than 80 years. We have a vision to build on this history of local use by thoughtfully improving our historic auditorium to meet the needs of the present and the future.

We are currently raising funds for the following:

Build a new ticket and patron services counter in our lobby.
More of the box office line will be able to wait indoors in inclement weather, and we will be poised to finally have daytime in-person ticket sales. The membership table in our lobby will be no more, replaced by a dedicated patron services station as part of the counter, where a volunteer will be able to greet and help guests looking for more information, wishing to renew their memberships, or needing other assistance.

Finish our stage upgrade project, purchasing the very last needed pieces of stage drape, a smaller 12’x9’ screen, and rear projector.
These are the last components of our current vision to make our stage an outstanding place for virtual collaboration using our fibre optic internet connection. We want artists and meeting groups to be able to use our connection to create with one another across distances from our stage space. This upgrade will make us uniquely positioned to do these things, and will lead to more dialogue events and creative processes taking place at The Civic Theatre.

Theatre Expansion

Support our More Than Movies campaign – a plan to build a second and third theatre within our current footprint, improve our washrooms and complete other necessary and innovative upgrades to our venue.

We want our facility to be able to expand the boundaries of cinema arts, social connectivity, and community space. Our renovated facility will include a fiber optic connection, and a professional post-production cinema and music mixing studio in one of our theatres. We would like to be a place where people not only see films and attend educational events, but also have the opportunity to create new content and share it with the world via fiber optic connectivity.

NCTS plans to upgrade and diversify The Civic Theatre, our 10,000-sqft space housed in Nelson’s historic Civic Centre through a phased approach. We will add two new digital screens within our current footprint and vastly improve meeting and community space in the venue.
