A unique cluster of offerings guaranteed to satisfy the full range of demographics starts this Friday, July 25 at the Civic.
A Million Ways to die in the West, a comedy Western that is bound to make even the most sophisticated chuckle and the less than sophisticated pee their pants, plays the late slot Friday and Saturday night. Begin Again a romantic comedy about a music producer and up and coming musician staring Mark Ruffalo (you’re welcome ladies) and Kiera Knightly will melt the hearts of all you lovers out there for the early bill Friday/Saturday. Earth to Echo plays to our family demographic, think E.T. phoning home with an iphone, for our Sunday matinee and early show Tuesday. Our Member Monday for the seventh month, Seven Samurai, promises to bring cinephiles to ecstasy and create new ranks of film geeks with a beautiful big screen presentation of this classic. Under the Skin, from Jonathan Glazer, the English director of Sexy Beast and Birth will satisfy the artsy crowd for a Tuesday late show staring a sexy fur wearing Scarlett Johansson (you’re welcome gentlemen.) And finally for our Thursday dramatic bio-pic film, Tracks, will excite the world traveling adventurers, of which there is no shortage in Nelson, with the chronicles of a young woman’s sweeping trip across 1700 miles of West Australian desert.
Aside from our regular booked films, on Wednesday, July 31, we will also be hosting the documentary, The Bus, telling the story of the humble beginnings of the VW bus to it’s current status as cultural icon (Nelson’s favorite RV). Dave Manning, the central character thread of the film and touring vagabond musician who lives and travels out of his ’65 split screen will be join director Damon Ritsau as special guests and play a set of his music following the film. Join us at 5:30 at the old Extra Foods parking lot as Bus and Vanagon Westfalia’s will pop their tops and get pots cooking on their gas stoves for a VW pot-luck tailgate pre-show cook out.
It’s getting hot in here with all these great films. Thank goodness we now have AC!
