Upcoming Open House And Movie Night

Upcoming Open House and Movie Night

There’s been a lot of moving and shaking going on, and it’s not just the first of the chairs being installed in the concrete floor (although we did feel the Earth move when the very first one went in). Read on to find out about our Open House, our first Film Night, two job opportunities, and more.
The deadline is looming for applications for two project management positions for the exciting project of renovating and reopening our theatre—the start of something big. Got administration, fundraising, and/or management skills? Go to http://wp17.civictheatre.ca/employment/ and submit your resume and cover letter by Monday, January 21 at 5pm.

Open House! We’re throwing the doors open to the Civic-curious on Sunday, January 27 from 3pm to 6pm. If you haven’t been in the theatre since the last time the projector rolled, you’ll want to see the space now. Come and see how far we’ve come, where we’ve yet to go, and where you can help. There will be a couple of short presentations during the afternoon, opportunities for Q & A, tours of course, and what would a theatre be without popcorn?
We’ll also be launching our Seat Sale (come fly with us!) Sponsor a seat for $250, and you may even get to install it yourself. Because this is The Theatre Nelson Built, it seems right to put the tools in your hands. Not handy with a wrench? No worries; our Chair Elves will do the job.

Our first Film Night is coming up February 23, but shhhhh! The movie selection is still a secret. We’ll have special pricing for members and opportunities to join. We’ll have lights, projector, action–and we’ll have seats! (Especially if you sponsor one).

Filmlovers, of course, have been making things happen while the Civic’s been dark, and the Capitol Theatre is the host of three upcoming opportunities. So while you’re waiting, check out the Amnesty International Film Festival on Saturday, January 21, FLIKS Canadian Film Festival February 8 – 9, as well as the Mamma Mia sing-along on Saturday, February 16. Information can be found at www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca for Capitol events, and the full FLIKS schedule is at www.fliks.ca.Thank-yous are in order to Jay and his sailing cohorts J.P., Jim, Glenn, and Gregor for giving up an evening to sand the auditorium floor. Thanks to Brian and Penny for devoting a morning to washing the floors. A big thank you to Jared of J. Brand Painting for offering to lead the painting crew next week. Thanks to Home Hardware Nelson Building Centre and to Nelson Farmers’ Supply for donating the paint. Finally, thanks to the Lion’s Club for a generous donation of $1,000.

Any volunteers who want to help paint (or to offer volunteer services for anything) please get in touch with Anna at anna@civictheatre.ca or click here
