The Pitch (Sept. 16 – 22); The Week at a Glance

It’s going to be another Fantastic week at The Civic!

Coming off the momentum from the current week’s bush films, Viggo Mortensen plays a devoted father in Captain Fantastic (PG), who after raising his six children in an isolated paradise in the forests of the Pacific Northwest is forced to enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to be a parent.

Parenting can certainly be scary, but it is not so much as the film splitting the weekend run. Don’t Breathe (14A), directed by Fede Alvarez, known for the Evil Dead remake, sends your spine tingling with a story of a trio of thieves hoping to walk away with a massive fortune after breaking into the house of a blind man who isn’t as helpless as he seems. Rated 87% certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Are you a member? Well good, because Member Mondays are back in full swing with two free member films for September to make up for a long drought over summer. The first, this coming Monday, Sept. 19th, is the classic adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark in beautiful DCP restoration.

The movie is the appetizer for the week’s Doc Wedsnday, Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made. After Steven Spielberg’s classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film. They finished every scene…except one; the film’s explosive airplane set piece. Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece.

Perfectly aligned with the return of the second season of Narcos on Netflix, we bring our other favourite drug lord Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) on the other side of the war against drugs as U.S. Customs agent ROBERT “BOB” MAZUR, who went deep undercover to infiltrate Pablo Escobar’s drug trafficking scene by posing as slick, money-laundering businessman Bob Musella. The Infiltrator (14A) plays as this coming week’s Thursday Movie.

Coming Next: Clint Eastwood’s lauded Sully, The second September Member Monday movie, Blazing Saddles.  Danny Says, the underground “mayor of New York” who managed The Ramones for our Doc Weds. and to close of the week with Indignation for our Thursday night movie.
