The Pitch (Nov 11 – 17) The week at a glance

Have a Close Encounter with a pair of  Toms and your fellow Nelsonites this week at The Civic.

We had very much hoped to bring in Arrival, the latest from Canada’s own Denis Villeneuve, on the break this week, but it was not to be (check back on either Nov 25 or Dec 2). So to steady your feet from leaving to our neighbouring township, we bring for your November Member Monday Movie, the masterpiece 1977 alien visitor film from Steven Spielberg, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which turns 40 this coming year.

But before Monday, lets take a look at what the rest of the week has to offer…

Ron Howard graces our screen twice this week, first with Wed. Nov 9ths doc Eight Days a Week and then with our upcoming weekend/Tues run, Inferno (PG).  Symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks, “Tom 1”) follows a trail of clues tied to Dante, the great medieval poet in the third installment of Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series.

On the split with Inferno, Tom Cruise “Tom 2”, reprises his role as Jack Reacher in Never Go Back (PG). Jack Reacher must uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy in order to clear his name. On the run as a fugitive from the law, Reacher uncovers a potential secret from his past that could change his life forever.

Deconstructing Dinner is back at the Civic for a pair of films and talk on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov 12. The Market Gardener’s Toolkit, an educational documentary featuring Jean-Martin Fortier, small-scale vegetable grower and author of the bestselling book The Market Gardener, A Successful Grower’s Handbook for Small-Scale Organic Farming kicks the program off followed by; Growing Local tells three poignant stories to help us understand the interconnected fates of small farms, consumers and the local food movement. visit the DD Film Fest site for more details.

To finish off the week, we begin the following with a sneak peak at the highly anticipated film that all you Harry Potter fans have been waiting for. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, premieres with a Thursday night sneak peak before its official Friday opening.  The film chronicles the adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.
