The Pitch (Jan. 15 -21)

The Civic comes out of Hyperspace into more Earthy programming with grand aplomb.

What to program after the most anticipated movie of 2015? With a month of the same film, the impact needed to be great, and wouldn’t you know it, our confirmed pick, just won Best Drama, Director and Actor at yesterday’s Golden Globes.

Alejandro Iñárritu is on a role.  With the top prizes at last year’s Academy Awards with Birdman, The Revenant (rated 14A) shows no sign of Iñárritu slipping. Inspired by true events, the film follows one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

Next week: Sisters (TBC) splits with The Hateful Eight (TBC), Pulp Fiction (Member Monday film), The Lions Club Variety Show, and Room (TBC) on Thursday.
