Revenge of the Thursday
In light of how many films we’ve been opening on the break and the resulting lack of Thursday opportunities, we are making the next week following Michael Bay’s action packed Transformers 4 a barrage of sophistication with Jon Favreau’s Chef, Clint Eastwood’s Jersey Boys and Canadian hero, Don McKellar’s The Grand Seduction.
Chef (rated 14A) Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman) and takes to the road July 4 – 6 in a food truck that he launches with the help of his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), friend (John Leguizamo) and son to get back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen — and zest for life and love.
Summer has finally hit and to celebrate the changing of the season, we bring you Clint Eastwood’s big screen version of the Tony Award-winning musical, which tells the story of the four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic `60s rock group The Four Seasons. Splitting with Chef July 4-6, The Jersey Boys’ (rated 14A) trials and triumphs are accompanied by the hit songs that influenced a generation.
And to round out our Thursday extravaganza, we board a boat off the Jersey shore to a small fishing village in Atlantic Canada that must procure a local doctor to secure a lucrative business contract. When unlikely candidate and big city doctor Paul Lewis lands in their lap for a trial residence, the townsfolk rally together to charm him into staying. As the doctor’s time in the village winds to a close, acting mayor Murray French has no choice but to pull out all the stops and begin The Grand Seduction (rated PG), July 10.
And when the last eve settles on our week of Thursday films, we shall welcome the Dawn of July 11 with an on the break opening of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes playing all-week from until July 17.
Coming Soon: In a constant effort to swing away at the curve balls that the studios continue to pitch, refusing splits and shorter runs, we have had to delay our showing of both Fault in our Stars and 22 Jump St. We will be sure to include 22 Jump St. over our our July 18 run on a split and fingers crossed Fault in Our Stars will grace our Thursday screen on July 24. We will keep you posted as confirmations come in.
