Circling around to some films with the Finest actors working today, I Promise.
A short week at The Civic coming up due to the exciting addition of our new and improved roll-up screen. To make up for the three-days in the dark from May 16 – 18, we will be presenting a trinity of films that include two-would be Thursday films over the weekend and Monday.
Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig (An Education, The Riot Club) directs a sterling British cast — including Gemma Arterton, Bill Nighy, Jack Huston and Richard E. Grant — in this period comedy-drama about a group of filmmakers struggling to make an inspirational film to boost morale during the Blitz of London in World War II. Their Finest (14A) plays this coming Friday and Sunday.
We welcome Emma Watson back to The Civic screen after last week’s Beauty and the Beast run in The Circle (PG), playing Friday and Sunday. Mae Holland (Emma Watson) seizes the opportunity of a lifetime when she lands a job with the world’s most powerful technology and social media company. Encouraged by the company’s founder (Tom Hanks), Mae joins a groundbreaking experiment that pushes the boundaries of privacy, ethics and personal freedom. Her participation in the experiment, and every decision she makes soon starts to affect the lives and futures of her friends, family and that of humanity.
And playing on Saturday and Monday, Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bron star in The Promise (14A). Brilliant medical student Michael meets beautiful dance instructor Ana in late 1914. Their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between Michael and Ana’s boyfriend, an American photojournalist who’s dedicated to exposing the truth. As the Ottoman Empire crumbles into war-torn chaos, their conflicting passions must be deferred as they join forces to get themselves and their people to safety.
Coming next: A whole new movie watching experience on the new screen and Alien: Covenant on the break.
