A Feast For Every Sense
There is no mistaking the sound of a VW engine and there were many of them, as around 50 Buses and Vanagons, Wesfalia’s and not, turned into the old Extra Foods parking lot last night for the pre-screening pot luck diner. Sight and smell quickly followed as everyone hoisted their pop top sails and began pulling out their culinary surprises for a taste of bus culture.
For many there without a current home on wheels of their own, it was a trip down memory lane as they walked along the columns of vehicles trying to find the Bus or Vanagon closest to the one that they might have traveled across the country in or broke down in at some surprising off the beaten track locale. The touch of heat of the day that built up along with the chatter and laughter was quickly dispelled by the crisp coolness from the new air conditioned auditorium where other swirls of colour, on-screen, met the eye and the soulful sounds of Dave Manning’s stories, keys and harmonica found homes in our ears.
Thanks to everyone for making it such a magical experience and a special thanks to director Damon Ristau and Dave Manning and their entourage for making the trip up to add to the intimate quality of the event. Also a huge thanks to the fellow organizers and sponsors, Darren, Keinan, Lori, NBC, Sherry from Vanagon/Westfaliaparts.com and the Kootenay Co-op Radio.
